At Cornerstone, we believe that strong families make strong churches and strong communities. We also believe that we can spiritually harm our children in two ways: first, by boring them to death at church, and second, by behaving as though the only way for a child to be interested in church is by "sweetening" the deal with candy, games and rewards. We do have a lot of fun at Cornerstone - tons of laughing and hugs - but our God is not a boring God! The Bible is an incredible book filled with awe and wonder. We recruit and train spiritually mature Sunday School teachers who engage the children with passion and an open Bible. Our aim is to give children the opportunity to truly worship God by teaching them about Him in depth during Sunday School and by welcoming them into the worship service to sing and pray with their parents. So here's what we've got planned for Cornerstone Kids!
Nursery, 2 & 3 year olds, 4 & 5 year olds
These rooms are available during the entire Sunday morning worship service. Our Nursery is a ministry of prayer for your child and your family. The 2 & 3 year olds and the 4 & 5 year olds follow Sunday School curriculum described below:
2s and 3s - A Sure Foundation
Children will be taught simple truth statements and basic Bible stories so that they will have the Word of God imprinted on their hearts and minds from the very earliest age.
4s and 5s - He Has Spoken By His Son
Sunday School formally begins with this 2-year chronological study of the Old and New Testaments. This year your child will focus on the greatness of God in Christ by noting key themes found chronologically throughout the New Testament.
Sunday School
Sunday school is available for 1st through 6th graders during the Worship Service on Sunday morning. Kids begin the service with parents, they are dismissed a few minutes into the service for Sunday School (a fun, age-appropriate lesson from the Bible), and then they rejoin the service after the sermon for an extended time of singing, prayer and Communion. Occasionally the children join us during the entire worship service.
During 2007-08, the children will explore the following curricula from Children Desiring God Ministries :
1st-4th grades – Faithful to All His Promises
The challenge of the Christian life is not to simply know the promises of God, but to place unshakeable confidence in them. Children will learn that because God’s character is trustworthy, His promises are true and reliable. A large-group teaching time is followed by a small-group discussion. Kids, bring your Bibles!
5th-6th grades – My Purpose Will Stand
God is the sovereign ruler of the universe whose eye is watching over all things, and whose hand is working in all things. We will learn together to recognize God’s providence in our lives and to joyfully trust His good purposes. A large-group teaching time is followed by a small-group discussion. Bring your Bible!
