Cornerstone Community Church in Auburn is a place where people believe that sin is a big problem. But we also believe that Jesus is a great King and Savior who loves us. The result of our theological convictions is a church where people (especially abused, poor, depressed, angry, sick, cynical people) are safe and joyful. We try not to dork around with religion, but to genuinely stand in awe before a holy, all-powerful and gracious God. We feel strongly that our church should be "salt and light" in the community (a living, breathing display of the Gospel) and so we are involved with building relationships with the homeless and the prison inmates near us. Please leave us alone if you're a churchy professional with all the lingo, fear-based narrow-mindedness, and dumb rules. You won't like it here if you think the Bible isn't true/authoritative and you'd rather fingerpaint and watch movie clips during the worship service. If you're not sure what you think about God, you will find other people among us just like you who ask questions and grow without feeling judged. Many of us are broken and irritating, but we are learning to love each other in a way that can only be explained by the indwelling, merciful power of God among us. We are really, really excited about what God seems to be doing here.
"A major reason for the contemptuous dismissal of some sermons is that people perceive them to be unrelated to real life as they know it. The fact that they are preached with authority makes them all the more distasteful. But when the preached message rings true, and is seen to relate to human reality, it carries its own authority, and authenticates itself."

"What
if our history does not prove to be a blind impersonal
sequence of events over which we have no control,
but rather reveals to us a guiding hand pointing
to a personal encounter in which all our hopes
and aspirations will reach their fulfillment?"
Henri J.M. Nouwen

"It is
not to learn the form of the doctrine of godliness,
but to get the power of it implanted in our souls.
And this is an eminent means of our making a progress
in the knowledge of the truth. To seek after mere
notions of truth, without an endeavor after an experience
of its power in our hearts, is not the way to increase
our understanding in spiritual things."
